During the week of January 6th-9th, Friends of the Environment in Abaco hosted their 7th Biennial Abaco Science Alliance . The goal of the conference was to provide a platform for networking and information sharing among NGOs, researchers and agencies that have conducted research projects on Abaco and throughout the wider Bahamas. Additionally the information presented at the conference is to be used as a tool to encourage the use of research for local education and environmental management purposes, and motivate additional research across The Bahamas. Participants at the conference included international and national researchers, local NGOs, government representatives, highschool students from the local schools on Abaco and interested Abaconians. The conference as always was a success! This year more local high school students actively participated in the conference proceedings and presented on their school research projects. These young Bahamian individuals are the upcoming researchers of The Bahamas so let’s support all efforts to help encourage our youth into the field of marine and terrestrial science!!.
