Kemit-Amon Lewis, Coral Restoration Caribbean Lead for The Nature Conservancy had an opportunity to present at the International Convention on Environment and Development in Havana, Cuba July 6-10, 2015. The conference was held at the Havana Conference Center. His presentation was focused on coral reef resilience and rehabilitation efforts being done in the US Virgin Islands. He spoke about the importance of corals, threats affecting coral systems and innovative methods being used to rehabilitate degraded coral reefs and increase coral resilience by performing coral propagation efforts. Persons that attended the presentation were very intrigued at how successful the work has been done to date. Kemit has also shared his expertise with the Conservancy’s Bahamas Program to ensure similar efforts are performed within The Bahamas.
